I’m building a network, so more people know about the skills I’m offering up: writing, editing, copy editing, and all those fun things that go along with having a masters’ degree in journalism and 18 years of experience (I hope that sounds impressive, although to me, it just sounds like I’m getting old!).

Lindsey: “I want to sissapoosa.” Me: “What does that mean?” Lindsey: “Nothing. It’s just a silly word.”

The USTA’s QuickStart program introduces pint-size players to tennis by shrinking the tools down to their size: short 19- to 23-inch rackets, slow-moving foam balls designed to bounce just the right height and 36-by-18-foot courts (standard is 78-by-36). At Chicago’s Midtown Tennis Club, it’s called the Junior Development Program, beginning with a Munchkins class for ages three and four. The Junior Group Lessons at River Trails Tennis Center in Arlington Heights start with Tiny Tots, ages four to six.
